What does Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil + 4BabyAndMom have in common?

Well, aside from the fact that I will be deep conditioning my hair overnight tonight in preparation for the Izea Fest conference, Tropical Traditions (the creator of the best VIRGIN coconut oil ever!) recently joined our list of partners for this event.

I will be posting a full review of the Coconut Oil that I got to try, share a bunch of ways that I use it aside from in my hair, and giving away some samples to my readers here, online, as well.

Don't forget to visit 4BabyAndMom often, and follow us on Twitter to see live blog updates, status updates and news from Izea Fest, 2009. Special thanks to Tropical Traditions for partnering with 4BabyAndMom, and for creating such awesome products!

Good Golly- What a Week... And it's not half over!

Tomorrow I leave for Izea Fest, 2009. I'm super excited, but it's wild how last minute prep tends to take over.. And so does the stress! Alex and Abbigaile were tested for the Swine Flu- thankfully, they did not have it. Alex had some 24 hour virus, and Abbie, thankfully, has been feeling ok.

I found out that two very important people in my family, are getting biopsies on a "mass" that doctors found. The one family member has a mass in her breast, the other on her cervix. Any good thoughts or prayers you could spare would be greatly appreciated.

So this week so far has pretty much gone like this: the friend that I will be rooming with flew down here to a family function in Orlando, I picked her up on Monday, got a $250 speeding ticket, battled possible H1N1, had my friend print me out business cards because the ones I ordered didn't come in in time, paid the water bill-twice, visited my sister in the ER (no, she doesn't have a mass), re-painted the trim and doors in my house, shopped until I dropped, allowed my roommate to spray paint my coffee table black, and tried not to lose my sanity. I'm exhausted, and fully looking forward to a full night of sleep without anyone tugging at me, waking up in the middle of the night, or after I finally fall asleep having the alarm whine rhetorically across the room.

I still need to buy extra batteries for my camera, and pack.. but I think I can manage that tonight and tomorrow morning without collapsing. I can't shake the feeling that I'm forgetting something.. Any suggestions?

Stop Biting Your Nails Now Using CONTROL-IT Nail Biting Treatment Review & Giveaway!

Alright, I am coming out of a very deep closet right now... I have an addiction. It's not to drugs or alcohol, but it's a real addiction. It's something that I've fought with for at least 20 years, and I have not been able to stop.

I am a nail biter. I have been biting my nails as far back as I can remember. In fact, I can remember my mom yelling at me when I was in Elementary school, saying that one day I was going to be a mom and that my nails would look terrible if I continued. My cousins and friends would poke fun at me if they caught me biting my nails, and if I got caught, it made me want to bite them even more. On top of that, my parents tried *everything* to get me to stop. They bought some stuff back in the late 80's, and made me soak my fingers in lemon juice and even rub Tabasco sauce onto my nails and fingers, but nothing they ever tried worked.

My nails have basically looked like this my entire life. I have never had nails that made it over the "hump" of my finger tip, never enough to see white under the edges, and on every special occasion I had to have fake tips put on because no matter how hard I tried, my nails wouldn't grow. I would bite as far down as I could, and often the corners or beds would bleed. It was really bad. I have wanted to stop, but stress- or habit- just seemed to take over, and any progress was completely lost.

When I was given the opportunity to try CONTROL-IT Nail Biting Treatment, I jumped at the chance, knowing that I would be able to give this product a run for its money. I was sent a box of the extra strength formula, a Manicure Pen, and a nail file. I giggled at both the manicure pen and nail file thinking never in a billion years would I ever use either of them, unless this product was made with miracle juice.

The directions and the website say that the three pack is good for a 21 day treatment plan, applied multiple times per day. The non-toxic, biodegradable formula claims to stop nail biting and thumb sucking, and that the bitter taste is enough to deter until the learned behavior becomes habit. The pamphlet goes on to describe how nail biters subconsciously start feeling the edges of their nails for irregularities before they start biting.

As I'm reading this, I realize that the hand that's not holding the paper is doing exactly that.. so, I opened one of the three jars and sniffed it. It smells like most cosmetic creams on the market, pretty much like nothing, with a subtle hint of something, perhaps citrus. I dabbed a tiny bit onto my fingertip and decided to "taste" it.

Oh, holy mother of pearl! You know the smilie that's everywhere that looks like this: ... Yeah. That was me.

Seriously, that's all it took for me to know that this product was going to work, because as long as it was on my nails, my fingers were going to be nowhere near my face, never mind my mouth!

I used the first vial religiously for about 10 days. Then it disappeared, I don't know if it fell out of my purse, or if one of the kids hid it, but it disappeared. So I started on the second vial. I've been using that not all day, every day, but only when I feel the urge to bite my nails. There was only a few days where I left it at home, (and actually regressed a little), but 8 of my nails have officially grown over the bump on the tip of my finger where my recessed nail used to sit at its longest.

I never thought that it was possible, but the urge to bite my nails has decreased tremendously as well. It hasn't been entirely pain free for me, although that has nothing to do with the product itself. My nails were kind of rounded, and because it was never over that bump, (especially at the corners!) as the nail grew to the healthier width and length it is supposed to be, some spots were sore or sensitive.

My husband loves that for the first time ever I can give him "scratchies" on his back, and I actually surprised myself itching my shoulder the other day that I can actually FEEL my nails.

I am super excited and at the end of this giveaway, I will post my "After" picture!

So my official declaration is that I believe that CONTROL-IT Nail Biting Treatment is made with miracle juice, because I am officially a no-longer-anonymous-nail-biter-recovering-addict. If you know anyone that suffers from this habit, or from thumb sucking or anything along those lines, do not walk, but run to your nearest Akin's or Chamberlin Natural Food Store.

You can also head to the Control-It website at StopBitingNails.com to put an end to your nail-biting habit today! If you would like to order online, be sure to use the coupon code: TRYIT, located at the bottom of the home page to save $5 off of your order!

On The Fly- A Simply Chic Bottle Warmer

"Completely ingenious", was the first thought that came to mind when I received an email packed with product information from ON THE FLY.

ON THE FLY created a product for busy moms on the go to warm baby bottles without the use of electrical outlets, lighter plugs in the car, or messy wires. Traveling with your formula or milk-fed baby will never be the same with "A Simply Chic Bottle Warmer"!

This unique sock goes over your baby bottle (only the fatter style bottles like Avent), and heats your bottle thoroughly in about 30 minutes. The heating element is removable and is designed to maintain temperature for 8 hours.

In other words, if you are planning a full day of museums, playdates, or errands, the water in your bottles can be nice and toasty as your day progresses without worrying about how to heat them. When baby is ready to eat, you can just add your formula and feed your baby!

I can't help but think how helpful this would be for traveling long distances... like when we moved from Long Island to Florida. I flew with my son 5 times in six weeks. It was excruciating and exhausting on the both of us, and this product could have eliminated so much extra stress!

ON THE FLY offers bottle socks in two sizes, short and tall, as well as bottle warmer kits to make gift giving that much easier.

If you are a busy mom on the go, I urge you to visit OnTheFlyBottle.com to learn more about these innovative products and to purchase them online or from a retailer near you.

Eco Touch Waterless Car Wash & Detailing Products Review + Giveaway!

This summer, 4BabyAndMom.. er, Dad.. got a chance to try out some fabulous products from Eco Touch, an environmentally conscious car care company that creates products free of harmful chemicals and that helps to conserve water, and paper in the process.

The directions on the cleaners say to use microfiber cloths, (which I have several around the house now) but the towel pack they sent was glorious! So nice and thick, and very absorbent.

I held off on posting this review for a little longer than normal because I really wanted to put all of the products to the test. Plus, during the high heat of the summer months in Florida, if you try to clean your car without water, it's usually not going to happen because the chemicals or solution you try to use evaporates instantaneously after hitting the very hot car, (even in at dusk or dawn when the surface is "cooler".)

Anyway, now that the sun's rays are not at it's strongest, we've had more of a chance to take advantage of the entire car care kit and more specifically, the Waterless Car Wash plus Polish.

The car care kit comes packed with all of the cleaners you need to clean your car from top to bottom, inside and out. The sprayers and bottles are 100% recyclable, all of the ingredients are disclosed on the label, and all of the products are MADE IN THE USA! Gentle on the environment, but super tough on dirt, the Carpet & Upholstery cleaner removes spots very easily. The Dashboard Protect does just that and the Metal Polish is great on trim, wheels, and other metal accents.

The two products I use the most are the All Purpose and Window Clear products. The All Purpose Cleaner I've used just about everywhere in the house, as well as on the car. It really is an "All Purpose" cleaner and is great at removing unidentifiable counter goo, miscellaneous sticky stuff from the outside of the fridge, and on the back of the vinyl seats of my car.

I love, love, love, love (did I mention love?) the Window Clear cleaner the most. It keeps the windows in my car and my home streak and fingerprint free like my old blue window cleaner, without the harmful chemicals, or the nasty smell.

Brian's official opinion of the Car Wash + Polish is that it cleaned the car really well, foamed nicely, and left no residue. He needed more microfiber towels than he thought, and then had an epiphany that it's not really "waterless" since we have to throw the towels in the washing machine after he was done- but I reminded him that it would be a combined load, and that the water we would have used with a traditional wash would have been much more. We have a Jeep, so it tends to get a little muddy... it removed the dirt, but Brian thinks that on regular washes, or for families that live in non-rural areas (aka- no dirt/muddy roads, and not after off-roading) that this product would perform the best. City families could really benefit from these products too, as you could clean your whole car in the parking garage, without any hassle!

All in all, we did love all of the products, and would definitely buy them again. These are great products for green families, or for families that are trying to make steps to live a greener lifestyle.Want it?

Reconnect using MyLife.com!

Forget searching for old classmates individually on all of the social media sites out there, MyLife.com gives you the tools you need to find the person (or people) that you've been looking for!

They take all of the hard work and simplify it to a click of the mouse- all you need is the person's first name, last name and approximate age. MyLife searches thousands of sources, and even does a reverse search to see who's been looking for YOU!

I actually looked up my best friend from Elementary school, and on the second page they actually found her! The process was really easy, and all they needed for me to do was register to their site to see the "expanded profile". I am super excited, because we lost contact about eighteen years ago. Over the years, I had searched myspace and online several times for her but never had much luck. I look forward to reconnecting, and finding out what she's been up to all of this time.

This service would be great helping you to reconnect with long lost loves, old classmates, friends from another state, or even from aother countries!

Check out MyLife.com now, and let me know if they helped you find the person (or people!) that you wanted to reconnect with the most. Good luck, and have fun searching!

Juice, Milk, Eggs.. Grocery Store Confessions- Another Baby, or No?

The other day, (while walking through my local supermarket), I got into a very interesting conversation with a little old lady about having more babies, and enjoying the two I have at this age/stage now.

We turned down the dairy aisle and this voice starts giggling at my children (who at the moment were trying to crash the car-shaped cart into the milk display.) It was moments like that where I honestly thanked God that the plastic steering wheel was "for show" only. Anyway..

She's giggling and I look up abruptly, and she starts telling me how she loved her kids at this age, but that at this stage there was already a third one, and that she has four children- all about 2 and a half years apart from each other. I tried to do the mommy brush-off, but apparently this woman and I were supposed to talk. So we got into it.. right in the dairy aisle, while the kids were playing in the car cart and thankfully before I grabbed our perishables.

I don't know how it came about, but during our conversation I told her that I was worried about adding another child to our chaos, as of right now, I kind of like the two that I have and don't feel out numbered- plus, I'm worried about how the kids will react to having another sibling. (Yes, I know we recently had NewBaby as a part of our family, but that was different than a sibling..)

I mean, have you ever seen the way boys that are 7 years apart act towards each other?? There's no way that Alex would be cool with a little brother- no matter how badly he wants one- shadowing after him... Right?

Brian is itching for another one; Alex wants a brother & Abbie wants a "girl baby for a sister".. and I have no idea what I want. That's the problem.. and I know it. I love my family where it is right now.. I am comfortable with the fact that by the time I am 40, Alex will be 19, and Abbie will be 16.. Another Baby would be turning 13 if I got pregnant at this very second. Whoa. I know it's not the same as having an 11 and 12 year old, and having a newborn at 37 like my mom did, but it's still a huge nut to swallow.

Tell me I'm right, that I'm crazy for even having this conversation with the little old lady in the grocery aisle, and that I should have that same "knowing" feeling that I did before we conceived Abbie, if another one should be added to our family. Tell me your stories of how your children get along, especially if they are about the ages of my two, with number three- or how you get along with your sibling of about the same age.

Ack, I can't even believe I'm publishing this post, but I really need some thoughts on this. I'm starting to think there's something wrong with me.. *sigh*

I don't feel "done" but I don't feel ready- how do you decide?

Starfrit Ceram-Eco Friendly Frying Pan Review

I am a kitchen gadget queen. I love to cook and bake, (and my waistline shows it!), but finding healthier, and safer alternatives to the gadgets or tools that I use is always a big plus for me.

I was recently asked to review the new Ceram-Eco Starfrit Alternative Fry Pan. I've tried other eco-friendly cookware before, but I was not impressed. This pan was unlike anything I've tried before, in fact, I would go out on a limb by saying this is the best pan I've ever used! I seriously love it. Love is not even a strong enough word- I promise. The non-stick ceramic coating is perfect for pancakes, french fries, chicken, and more.

Brian loves the fact that not only is this pan eco friendly, but it's oven safe- even the sturdy rubber handle- to 350*. His favorite meal to make is "breakfast pizza" which he usually attempts to flip onto a baking sheet half cooked. Even the thought sounds messy, and yes, it occasionally is.. but not anymore, because he can use this frying pan on the stove and in the oven.

I love the fact that it heats evenly, refuses to let anything stick to it, and is extremely versatile. I love that I can actually flip my pancakes (larger ones, of course!) and that I can just oil it, and it maintains the beautiful, shiny, new pan look. We've had our pan for about a month now, and it's a staple in our everyday cooking routine.

If you like to sautee, this pan might be difficult to use while keeping it on the burner. As long as you lift before you flip and sautee, you'll be fine. I highly reccommend this product, and know that if you give it a try you'll love it as much as I do. This has definitely been added to my list of favorite products for 2009!

Car Rentals- Where do you go to rent a car?

Ok, I've been driving myself crazy looking for a website that I thought I had bookmarked.. It might be on my desktop, but since that's out of commission for while, it's no use to me right now! It was a great comparison site that you could mess with all of the options to find the best deal, best car, etc.

Anyway, now I'm looking for your help!

I need to know, when you go on vacation, where do you rent your car from? Do you use a comparison website or just site hop for the best deal? Do you use coupon codes? Any links (or great deals) you can send my way would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you, readers!

The Biggest Loser Kicks Off Tonight!

An all new season, with all new contestants.. all new stories, and Bob & Jillian. What could be better than that?

Daniel (from last season) is coming back, which I'm very eager to see his progress.. hopefully his teammate is more useful than last year's pessimistic heavyweight.

The new cast is sure to hook the watchers with the traumatic and heartbreaking backgrounds of several of their participants.

From divorce and mommy-daddy issues to a fatal car crash that took away a contestants husband and children, this season one can only pray that as the physical transformations start occurring, that the emotional healing and breakthroughs will come double fold.

Visit The Biggest Loser online for cast bios and get your popcorn ready for tonight's season premiere 8pm EST on NBC!

Thomas & Friends: Hero of the Rails The Movie In Stores Now! *REVIEW & GIVEAWAY!*

Thomas_the_Train_Hero_of_the_Rails_dvdFrom the official Press Release:

Peep! Peep! All aboard for new friends, new destinations, and new voices when Thomas and his engine friends embark on their greatest adventure yet as Thomas & Friends™: Hero of the Rails steams onto DVD September 8, 2009 from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment.

See and hear Thomas, Percy, James, Gordon and all the other engines as never before in this brand-new CGI-animated movie, which marks the debut of individual character voices for the engines. For the first time, fans will hear the voice of Thomas and his friends, including three new characters who debut in Hero of the Rails, as they share stories that lead to timeless life lessons of discovery, friendship and cooperation.

DVD SYNOPSIS
In this action-packed tale of friendship, determination and teamwork Thomas discovers an abandoned and broken down engine named Hiro from an exciting far away land. Fearing that he will be scrapped, Thomas enlists help from many friends including Victor, a new steam engine and Kevin, a new crane vehicle who both work at the spectacular Sodor Steam Works. But mishaps, mistakes and one boastful engine could foil their plans for a heroic rescue. Can the engine pals work together to help their new friend? Join the adventure and find out!

I love Thomas, as the lessons that are taught are practical, meaningful, and packed with traditional morals and values of honesty, helpfulness, and teamwork. The new style of animation was beautiful to watch, and the story line was very well rounded. I happened to find Sir Topham Hat a grumpy old man in this movie, but the kids enjoyed every minute.

Both of the kids have had the opportunity to watch this DVD several times. Like all Thomas the Train movies, they stared wide eyed, watching as Thomas tried to find parts to save the very old, wise, and broken down, Hiro. The kids were quick to react to when Spencer made "bad choices" and flaunted his Express talents, and just as quick to point out the positive moments as well.

If your child likes Thomas, I definitely recommend adding this movie to your home collection.

I didn't disappear... Some updates and upcoming events

As most of you know, we've been having crazy internet issues. Our family is in the process of switching providers, and I'm trying to convince my husband that we really need to do the "double" or triple pack from this new provider. He doesn't think that a TV is necessary, and that we're saving money by not having it-- (I've been surviving without it for about 4 months now to save money, I feel like I'm going through withdrawal. Thank God it was the summer and no good great shows were on.. LOL!)

Speaking of which- when does Grey's come back on?? Ack. I cannot bare to think what I'd do without my Grey's. In the meantime, last week I read the entire Twilight saga.. all four books, from cover to cover, and saw the movie. I am officially heart broken for Jacob, and now that I've finished Breaking Dawn, I understand completely. I cannot wait to see the next movie, and read whatever else Stephenie Meyers has up her sleeves.

I'm sorry that the last several posts have been more press-release style posts... with Back to School in full swing, trying to get on a good schedule again has been more than difficult. Alex is doing phenomenally well in school so far- both in academics and in behavior. He's excited to see what this new year is going to do for him.

I have been elected into the School Advisory Committee. I am excited about my new "position" but unsure of what is exactly expected of me. Last year (and this year) I was a part of the PTO, but never really felt a "part" of it.. I'm happy to be joining another committee as a proactive parent, and am eager to meet on the 17th with the rest of the committee.

I used to joke that nothing happens for me unless it all happens in the same week- now I know that that is the case! I am preparing for Izea Fest, trying to get everything in order, including my Flip repaired, (but that's a WHOLE other post!), and in the process was invited to a wedding in Brazil. One of my dear friends is getting married the same weekend. Shortly after that, I was cordially invited to a premier baby event in New York City, also on that weekend.

There's good news and bad news to that last paragraph... The good news is that I'll be attending Izea Fest- thanks to my great friends at Look What Mom.. and Dad.. Found- a representative, and very dear friend, Cyndy will be attending The Baby Show in NYC, and hopefully, I can figure out how to mail a gift to my darling friend in Brazil. The bad news is that the Flip people say it could take up to 4-6 weeks for me to receive the device back again, so I may not have it in time for the conference. I'm going to try not to think about that for now, and maybe I'll find another video recording device to review for the event. *sigh* So that's what's been going on in 4BabyAndMom-land.

I hope all is well with you, my readers, and look forward to the next several weeks! I can't wait to share what I've learned from the conference with you all, get back to blogging about more than press releases.. There will be several giveaways posted this week, as long as the internet is cooperative- but after the message I received today, I have a feeling that things will be changing around here, and that the whirl wind I belonged to this morning has just dropped me in a new place, with amazing possibilities. Like a baby eagle who's just about to spread her wings, I have a whole world to explore now, and I'm super excited to share it with you all!!

Ringling Brothers & MomCentral Team Up to Bring You "Big Top" Deals!

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents Over The Top, an all-new live entertainment extravaganza featuring the ultimate tug of war between Ringmaster Chuck Wagner and clown eccentric Tom Dougherty over a magical top hat that controls the circus.

When the Ringmaster dons the hat he conjures stupendous spectacles for his circus, like the stunt riding Royal Cossack Cavalry while the clown uses the hat to summon silly and whimsical acts for his circus, such as a cavalry of goats riding on ponies in a Barnyard Bonanza. They continue to top one another until the Ringmaster and clown realize that the magic of the circus is not in the hat but in the hearts of everyone.

The show culminates in an amazing display of gigantic glowing rainforest flowers surrounding Chinese acrobats swinging on vines and propelling through the air. Over the Top is two circuses in one providing excitement for the whole family.

Audiences will see nearly 100 animals including flying dogs, Asian elephants that skip, hop, and groove, miniature horses, llamas, pigs, and even a performing porcupine. In a daring feat, the courageous Daniel Raffo stands eye to eye with a pack of powerful Bengal tigers.

Circus celebrities help rev-up the motorcycle madness featuring one cycle on a high wire and seven speeding riders in a Globe of Steel. Extraordinary aerial acts fill the arena sky with a rare double-decker trapeze and the Bombastic Bouncers who combine gigantic inner tubes and awe-inspiring acrobatics in a high-energy performance never before seen in America. And with the audience's participation, this circus really goes Over The Top!

Exercise Your Mind with BrainFuel!

Brain_Fuel I've recently had the opportunity to review BrainFuel4Kids, a website packed with information on how to maximize your child's learning potential by using the right foods, brain games, and so much more. Included in the review of BrainFuel was a 30-day free trial to Lumosity.com to track and record my personal Brain Training Exercises.

I've been playing these games almost non-stop since I enrolled, and I can tell you they're not only fun, but as the levels increase, it's almost like your brain goes into auto-pilot and you're doing the Brain Training games with almost exact accuracy, and it's really FUN! I love watching my BPI (Brain Performance Index) increase, and comparing it to other individuals my age.

Moms and Dads can join the forums to ask any food related questions to the registered dietitian, as well as any other questions that you may have about exercising your child's mind!

My son is 'gifted' and loves websites that are packed with tons of information (like did you know that...Your brain contains a vast network of connections capable of performing 20 million-billion calculations per second.) 20 Million-BILLION?!?!?!- So the next time you think you're incapable of multitasking, know that that is not only untrue, but impossible!! Alex has thoroughly enjoyed the fun facts on the BrainFuel website, and many of the games he thinks are "totally cool".

I love finding great resources for Moms and their children, and I thoroughly encourage you to check out BrainFuel and let me know what you think!

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of BrainFuel and received an insulated lunch bag from California Innovations to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

On Labor Day.

We decided totally last minute yesterday that we should load up the kids and the Jeep with plenty to eat, drink, and go fishing and to a beach. On Labor Day.

So we did. We packed up the cooler, and loaded it with healthy snacks, junk food, Gatorade, water and more.. And headed North to explore and find someplace new. On Labor Day.

We found a lovely bridge to fish off of in this very old, very small town, that I found out the legendary Babe Ruth actually used to hunt and fish in the quaint little town and it's surrounding area. (How's that for an interesting tidbit??)
After a very unsuccessful fishing trip, we decided to go exploring for a beach that wasn't overly packed. On Labor Day.

As we traveled down a very long and winding road, along the western coastline of Florida, we stumbled upon a dead end that ended us at this beautiful beach- very similar to super fine sand you'd find at Clearwater or Honeymoon Island- but without the crowds of people suffocating every inch of space on the sand, on Labor Day.

We were ecstatic! What was even better, was after we got unpacked, and the sunblock on the kids, we trekked out into the greenish water, and walked into waist-high water.. as we walked, and walked, and walked, we realized that this was pretty much the deepest it got- for the entire swimming area that we were in. (There were several swimming areas and an on shore fishing area that we hadn't gone to.) There was also a playground for the kids, a little snack shack, and a decent sized restroom building that looked very clean. The border of the parking lot was surrounded by covered picnic areas and charcoal grills, perfect for families. We've lived in Florida almost 5 years, where we are right now for about 3 and a half, and never ventured this far north before.. but I am so glad we did- on Labor Day!

Abbigaile was able to stand in the water, which allowed for me to teach both of the kids about swimming in the Gulf, or any body of water with waves. (Yes, the Gulf had waves!) The little swells were perfect, and it was so much fun to watch the kids "go up" on a swell, and down in between. It taught them to be aware of their surroundings, and how to respond to the way in which the tide was rolling in. Growing up on Long Island, I spent most of the summer in the ocean or the bay, and I was so excited to take the time with both children to allow them to get to know the water.. even if it was "just the Gulf".

After our day at the beach, we headed back home, and grilled up some cheddar wurst and hot dogs, and had a mini-Labor Day get together with my Dad and my best girlfriend. All in all, we had an excellent day, except for the massive sunburn I got on my shoulders, upper back and right arm. The good thing that I learned from my unfortunate sun burn experience is that vinegar takes the sting out of sunburn and turns it brown.

The kids fell asleep after their showers and dinner without much complaining, and my friend, husband and I sat and watched "I love you, Man" ..On Labor Day.

IBW-Books Review and Giveaway!

Early literacy is the key to success. You will hear me say this many times over the course of a year, especially when I find a great book, program, or activity that encourages children to read, and have fun while reading.

Recently, 4BabyAndMom was given the opportunity to review IBW-Books. Over the summer, my goal was to help Alex with writing. He has such an inventive imagination, but hates to write. He can write, but as a gifted child, he gets very frustrated because he can read these enormous words but when he writes and mis-spells a word, doesn't want to complete the task at hand because he knows it's just not right.

Interactive Book Webscenes
allow for children, parents and teachers to explore and expand the lesson beyond the words of the book. I personally feel that IBW books would be great assets for home-school moms, and a great tool to encourage creative writing. For our family, that was exactly what I used the IBW books we received with Alex for.

At one particular webscene, a little lost bee meets a bear on a bike, we stopped reading the book and I asked him to brainstorm and tell me what he thought was going to happen next to "Wee Bee". Alex actually stopped for a moment to think and then told me his whole theory. I asked for him to draw me a picture, and write a couple of sentences under it, and he did! It was the first time all summer that he wrote willingly.

I love the fact that the IBW-Books are in both English and Spanish, as we are trying to build the childrens bilingual vocabulary little by little, and own very few books in Spanish. The webscenes are even in Spanish as well, which help to reinforce the key words we are learning or concentrating on.

Both Alex and Abbie enjoyed the IBW-Books that we received to review, and I look forward to seeing what new titles become available. Also, if you're looking for a new way to earn some extra money from home, IBW-Books offers a work-at-home sales position selling their fun and educational books!

Want it?
Visit IBW-Books.com and order now to take advantage of the save 75% for 75 days sale! This fabulous sale ends on September 30th.

Kids Get Creative Using the Play-Doh Spaghetti Factory! *Giveaway*

In our house, Back to School is in full force! Alex has started full time, and Abbie is enjoying learning about colors and shapes at home until next fall when preschool begins. It's come to my attention that a lot of teachers this year had Play-doh as part of their Back to School shopping lists.

As a former educator, I recognize the fact that Play-doh is an awesome tool to use with preschool and early elementary school students to fine tune their fine motor skills, hand/eye coordination, and attention to details.

Play-doh sets like the Spaghetti Factory encourages children to use their imagination during free play- creating and serving plates of yummy colored pasta, meatballs and more, using the different shape molds along the bottom of the pasta press itself.

Both of the kids enjoyed playing with this unique pasta creator, sharing the play-mat, and several dishes of green, red, yellow and orange colored squiggle pasta, meatballs, and veggies. Alex even squashed some red flat, and molded it over the pasta to create "sauce". Nothing is better than watching the joy of your child creating something spectacular from a plain ol' piece of Play-Doh!

The kids literally played for about an hour, before I made them clean it up after promising we could play with it again another day!

Keep Organized after Baby-Baby's First Journal Review and Giveaway!

I was 21 years old when I had my son. He was ten pounds, five ounces, and 22 1/2 inches long. Three days later, when we were discharged, he measured 23 1/4 inches! He was a big boy- and still is- and keeping rack of his feeding schedule was rather difficult. I tried breastfeeding, but was very unsuccessful. I joked that he "came out looking for a steak." After the first few weeks of mostly formula, it was very apparent that he was not tolerating something. Whether it was the milk, or the milk protein, I had no idea.. but the pediatrician asked me to keep track of his feeding times, how often he spit up, how often he threw up, and for how long he cried. As a new, young mom, I found that it was extremely difficult, and I felt like he was feeding constantly. I tried using a spread sheet, I ended up with post-it's everywhere.. Nothing seemed to work.

I recently had the opportunity to review "Baby's First Journal" from GLOW BABY. This high quality, very well organized journal is the perfect book to help any new or first time mom keep track of all of the important details after the baby is born. From feeding time- on the breast or on the bottle- to how much sleep, or what type of diaper they had, Baby's First Journal allows mom to jot down the info she needs, while keeping it neat and organized. It's small enough (and flexible enough!) to put in a purse or a diaper bag for the mom on the go, or in a drawer on your changing table or nightstand. The note section allows you to add snippets of your day, thoughts and concerns, as well as milestones you don't want to forget to add to your baby book. It contains 3 months of logging pages, so you don't need to worry about running out of room, which makes it a helpful tool to bring with you to your pediatrician appointments.

Baby's First Journal was created by an amazing Canadian Mompreneur. The green and brown light-weight organizer came delicately wrapped in white and a blue-ish teal tissue paper, with the Glow Baby Logo right in the middle. The presentation makes gift giving that much easier! As an experienced mom, I recognized how incredibly useful this tool could have been with my first... and during the lack of "time" I had after my daughter was born three years later. Communication between my husband and I was very rare, as I was so sleep deprived from waking through the night with my daughter, and then super early in the morning with my son who needed constant attention- it was almost unbareable. A journal like this would have been great on those nights where my husband shook me out of the only deep sleep I was getting to see if she had already pooped because he thought she might be constipated because the last several diapers he changed were only pee-pee. OH, how I could have used this journal then!

Baby's First Journal
is available in three colors, pink, blue, and green, which makes this journal a perfect gift for a new or first time mom. If you are expecting, or know someone who is, this would be a wonderfully unique gift- and something that the new mom would actually put to great use!
